Programs to Help You Cover the Cost of Medications
At MVP, we want to ensure you get the medications you need to get or stay healthy. You may qualify for help in paying for drug costs through:
- Medicare’s Low Income Subsidy (LIS or “Extra Help”)
- EPIC
- Programs through the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA)
Medicare Low Income Subsidy (LIS or "Extra Help")
You may qualify for extra help if you’re eligible for Medicare and meet specific income and resource requirements.
To see if you qualify, call:

- The Social Security Administration Office at 1-800-772-1213 (TTY 1-800-325-0778)
- Your state Medicaid office
If you have both Medicare and Medicaid, you qualify for Extra Help.
We follow Medicare’s Best Available Evidence (BAE) policy to determine your eligibility for Extra Help paying for your prescription drug costs. For more information on BAE, visit the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) website.
State Pharmaceutical Assistance Programs (EPIC)
You may be eligible for help paying for drug coverage from the New York State Elderly Pharmaceutical Insurance Coverage Program (EPIC). State programs may help you with the costs of your prescription drugs and your plan premium.
To qualify, you must:
- Be eligible for, or already enrolled in, Medicare Part D
- Live in New York State
- Meet age requirements
- Meet income requirements

Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Coverage
VA benefits can work together with your MVP Medicare Advantage plan. If you qualify for prescription drug benefits through the VA, you may be able to save money on your prescriptions. Call your local VA for more information.
MVP Health Plan, Inc. is an HMO-POS/PPO/HMO D-SNP organization with a Medicare contract and a contract with the New York State Medicaid program. Enrollment in MVP Health Plan depends on contract renewal. MVP Health Plan, Inc. has been approved by the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) to operate as a Special Needs Plan (SNP) until 12/31/2024 based on review of MVP Health Plan’s Model of Care. Health benefit plans are issued by MVP Health Plan, Inc., an operating subsidiary of MVP Health Care, Inc. Not all plans available in all states and counties. Every year, Medicare evaluates plans based on a 5-star rating system. Out-of-network/non-contracted providers are under no obligation to treat MVP Health Plan members, except in emergency situations.
